Six60 take flight

SOME of us have come across a celebrity or two by chance on flights around New Zealand.

Now Air New Zealand is taking the chance out of it and giving passengers the opportunity to meet one of the nation’s most popular bands — Six60.

The airline is putting on a dedicated flight from Auckland to Dunedin, on which the band members will be on board mingling with their fans, and watching the world premiere of Julia Parnell's new film Six60: Till the Lights Go Out.

The flight, NZ660, will be on November 14.

The feature documentary is not due to screen in theatres until later in November.

Air New Zealand brand and marketing general manager Jeremy O’Brien said the airline was thrilled to be hosting the event.

“As a nation, we’re so proud of Six60 and the phenomenal success they’ve achieved on the global stage, so we’re really excited to be able to offer this experience for New Zealand fans.’’

Because the package was built around a oneway ticket to Dunedin, Mr O’Brien believed it would be a great way of supporting tourism to the city where the band originated.

‘‘We hope most passengers will consider staying a night or two, or exploring the region further, once they get there.

‘‘We wanted to put on this special service to Dunedin — the place where it all began for Six60 — as a way of saying thank you to our customers for their support this year.

‘‘It’s fantastic to be able to host the premiere and help celebrate the band’s incredible success with Kiwis.’’
