Cycleways

-

MANY thanks to the kind people who stopped to help me on September 27, when I fell in Portsmouth Dr while attempting to join the cycle path from the road.

Unfortunately, I managed to break my femur in two places but was lucky enough to be operated on that same day. The care received at Dunedin Hospital was excellent and so far the recovery is going well.

You can imagine my frustration when a good friend told me the following day that he had fallen in exactly the same place about three years ago.

He reported the matter to the Dunedin City Council and suggested that improvements be made to make the junction safer for cyclists.

Nothing has been done in those three years and this has been the outcome.

Quite honestly, I feel far safer riding on the roads around Dunedin than I do in the cycle lanes.

The DCC really needs to look at ways to make the cycle lanes safer for cyclists.
