Man wanted after Audi chased

- JOHN GIBB

POLICE are looking for Rory Smyth after a highspeed driving incident in central Dunedin last week.

Smyth (32), who has recent links with the Dunedin and Waikouaiti area, is subject to parole conditions after being released from prison last year.

A police pursuit resulted when Smyth allegedly drove his darkcoloured Audi car at high speeds through parts of the central city last Thursday morning, police said.

A police spokeswoman said last week they had later tried to stop the car on the Northern Motorway about 11am, but the pursuit was ‘‘almost immediately’’ abandoned because of the dangerous actions of the driver.

Acting Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said yesterday an unsuccessful attempt was also later made to stop the Audi A4 sedan at Evansdale, north of the city, but Smyth had allegedly evaded spikes which had been deployed and his vehicle crashed into a parked truck before driving off.

Snr Sgt Bond said a warrant to arrest Smyth had been issued for breach of parole conditions, and police also wished to speak to him over the driving matters.

He should not be approached, Snr Sgt Bond said.
