Rock keeps road closed longer
COMPLICATIONS with securing and demolishing a huge, unstable boulder above Blueskin Rd in Dunedin mean the road will not open until the second half of next week.
Dunedin City Council group manager transport Jeanine Benson said an earth bund to help secure the boulder was now in place.
Contractors had yesterday begun work on breaking down the boulder, believed to weigh about 100 tonnes, above Blueskin Rd, Careys Bay.
The work was proving to be more complex than first thought, but it was now hoped the road would ‘‘be able to reopen in the second half of next week’’, Ms Benson said yesterday.
Before further complications with the work had emerged, it had been hoped to open the road early next week.
