Year 9, 10 netball teams win local grades

The 2020 winter sports season finished with a bang at Bayfield High School. For the first time since its creation, Bayfield won the CoEd Cup. Many team stepped up to contribute to the win. Most notably, the senior A and junior A netball teams, which both took out the top spot in their grades, as did the badminton teams.

The netball season was very successful. The senior A team won the Premier 2 grade, the 10A team took out the year 10 grade and the senior mixed team won the mixed grade.

Four pupils competed at the NZ schools hiphop nationals in Wellington in September. The results were as follows: Abby Green, open fitness teams, 1; Stella McQuillan and Emma Green, secondary open teams, 3; Stella McQuillan, junior secondary open novice, 2; Emma Green, junior open, 4; CastaliaJo Bloem, junior secondary open novice, 6.

Kahu Kaan and Ocean Wilson were both selected in the Otago Scholastic­s Surf Team, competing in the under16 boys’ division at the national scholastic championsh­ips in Kaikoura.

Kahu fought hard to get into the quarterfin­als and finished a very creditable seventh.

The curlers had a fantastic time at the nationals competitio­n in Naseby. The ‘‘Bayfield Burlers’’ took out the mixed grade and the Wizards finished second.
