WEST BROMWICH: Promoted West Bromwich Albion and Burnley fought out a 00 draw in the English Premier League yesterday after both sides missed chances to register a first win of the season in a pulsating clash.

It was the top flight's first goalless match of the season, which did neither team any favours in a bid to move clear of the relegation zone.

The result left West Brom 17th in the standings on two points from five games, while 18thplaced Burnley has one from four after a dominant secondhalf performance.

All White Chris Wood twice hit the crossbar for Burnley, having failed to convert an Ashley Westwood cross before he missed with the goal at his mercy after West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone parried an Ashley Barnes header into his path.

In the other match yesterday, a Raul Jimenez shot that took a heavy deflection off the head of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips gave Wolverhampton Wanderers a hardfought 10 away win.

The narrow victory put Wolves sixth on nine points from five games, behind Leicester City and Arsenal on goal difference. Newlypromoted Leeds is 10th with seven points.

Derby County forward Wayne Rooney said yesterday he had tested negative for Covid19 but must selfisolate for 10 days after coming into contact with a friend who tested positive.

Former England captain Rooney, playercoach at Championship (secondtier) side Derby, added that he was ``angry and disappointed'' with the friend who had visited him despite being told to take a Covid19 test and later testing positive. — Reuters
