Museum Reserve tree felled

-

It was goodbye to a large lime tree at Otago Museum yesterday. The tree was removed having become dangerous to the public.

Dunedin City Council acting parks and cemeteries manager Aidan Battrick said the smallleaved lime tree at the Museum Reserve was felled by council contractors with the assistance of a crane.

‘‘We brought in the crane for safety reasons first and foremost, and because it's a highprofile site, we don't want to do too much damage under the tree if possible.’’

The cost was estimated at thousands of dollars, he said.

The decision to remove the tree was made after it became a safety issue, despite years of attempts to bring it back to health.
