Prison staff member attacked

Auckland: An Auckland Prison staff member was seriously injured in an attack by an inmate on Saturday night.

Guards were inspecting a damaged cell door when the male prisoner, who had escaped from his cell, attacked them from the corridor. One guard sustained serious injuries.

Corrections regional commissioner Lynette Cave said additional staff were rostered on last night and there would be increased patrols. — RNZ
