Prices up for qual­ity wool

A QUAL­ITY of­fer­ing of wool from all breeds at­tracted a ‘‘strong and buoy­ant’’ mar­ket at last week’s South Is­land wool sale in Christchur­ch, PGG Wright­son Wool South Is­land auc­tion man­ager Dave Bur­ridge said.

Com­pared with the sale two weeks ear­lier, there were sig­nif­i­cant lifts and clear­ances for all wool types.

Hav­ing a dom­i­nant Aus­tralian wool­ex­port­ing com­pany on the bench pro­vided the ‘‘ex­tra ur­gency in the room’’, par­tic­u­larly in mid­mi­cron and merino wools, he said.

Cross­bred fleece prices rose up to 10% while mid­mi­cron half­bred fleece (28 mi­cron) was up 15% and half­bred hogget (23 mi­cron) was up 18%. Merino fleece (18 mi­cron) rose 12% and hogget (16 mi­cron) was up 11%.
