Bennett lifts in Vuelta

Cycling: George Bennett has improved three places to be 10th overall after the seventh stage of the Vuelta a Espana, a 159km hilly ride between VitoriaGasteiz and Villanueva de Valdegovia yesterday.

The Kiwi finished 13 seconds behind stage winner Michael Woods, of Canada, and is now 2min 39sec behind overall leader Richard Carapaz of Ecuador.

Bennett (JumboVisma) gained time and three places overall on the stage after figuring prominently in a breakaway.

Briton Hugh Carthy is second on general classification and Ireland’s Daniel Marin is third.

Bennett's JumboVisma teammate Primox Roglic is 30sec behind the tour leader in fourth place.
