Diesel spill ‘widespread’
Queenstown: A diesel spill over a ‘‘fairly widespread area’’ of Hawthorne Dr, Frankton, yesterday had to be cleaned up by council contractors using crusher dust.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the leak came from a truck travelling on the road. Fenz personnel ensured the area was safe until contractors arrived.
A Queenstown Lakes District Council spokesman said the dust was later removed and any remnants would be picked up by a sweeper truck overnight.
He said some diesel had spilled into a stormwater mud tank, but was later removed and no fuel had contaminated the environment.
