Former MP seeks board seat
FORMER CluthaSouthland MP Hamish Walker is chasing a seat on the Queenstown Chamber of Commerce board.
Mr Walker is among 11 candidates seeking five positions on the board, who will be voted on by chamber members before its annual meeting next Tuesday.
The oneterm MP, who lives in the resort, stepped down as the National Party’s candidate for the new Southland seat in last month’s election after admitting he released private details of Covid19 patients to the media.
In his candidate profile for the vote, Mr Walker said the chamber was important because it helped businesses thrive by ensuring they were ‘‘represented loud and clear’’.
He could offer ‘‘excellent networks and relationships within local and central government, and key stakeholder groups’’.
