Kiwi Ferns too good
Rugby league: Rising fiveeighth AutumnRain StephensDaly scored two tries and set up another on debut as the Kiwi Ferns proved too powerful against a Fetu Samoa invitational side 288 at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday.
Fielding just five players who played in last year’s test loss to the Jillaroos in October, fillin halves StephensDaly and Karlee Hansen impressed to help give new coach Ricky Henry his first victory in charge of the national team.
The game was the only international fixture on the rugby league calendar this year due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
Rodney Krahenbring, who finished his match on the 14th green 5/4, meaning he finished the tournament tied with John McIntee as Otago’s top pointsscorer. Travis Cook won a quality match against Arun Langton in which he was under par when he finished his game on the 17th green.
Otago finished the tournament with the same points as the seventhplaced team but ended 10th on game difference.
Southland had a stunning tournament to finish third. Peter Buckley led the team from No 2 to finish the tournament unbeaten.
