Pop­pies il­lu­mi­nate the sails of the Syd­ney Opera House at dawn yes­ter­day as Aus­tralia marks 102 years since the Armistice that ended World War 1.

As the sun rose, a lone bu­gler played the Last Post.

The guns fell silent at 11am on Novem­ber 11, 1918 af­ter more than four years of war­fare.

Ser­vices were also held across Aus­tralia.

In Can­berra, Prime Min­is­ter Scott Mor­ri­son laid a wreath at a ser­vice in Can­berra. — Reuters
