Racing: New Zealand Trotting Cup day has maintained its position as New Zealand’s most popular domestic race day after 11.3 million was wagered across all races.

That is 7% above last year and the highest cup day turnover for the TAB in history. More than $6.6 million was placed by punters at Addington Raceway, the highest since 2014

($6.71 million) and fourthhighest in the past 20 years.

More than $1.6 million was placed on the cup itself, 5 % ahead of last year. Cup day in Christchurch followed hot on the heels of a huge Melbourne Cup last week, when $26.6 million was bet with the TAB in a single day, up 14 % on last year and a record result.
