HITTING THE MARK

News Otago’s Anna Campbell has been elected to the board of New Zealand Cricket is certainly worth celebrating. She is an incredibly capable person on so many different levels and has all the skills to serve the game as it should be served. Most importantly, she has genuine passion for the game. She started off in the backyard playing cricket against her family and eventually graduated to the grand title of insufferable cricket bore. Love that story she told Notes From Slip earlier this week about basically driving her colleagues out of the staff cafeteria.

‘‘There is a guy in my office who is as much of a cricket tragic as I am,’’ she said.

‘‘And whenever we’re in the tea room at the same time, everyone else just clears out.’’

That is exactly the sort of person cricket needs in its corner.
