Mockford leaves NEV in a spin
Green Island 267/9 beat North East Valley 128
Green Island wristspinner Jack Mockford helped turn a big total into a winning score with a wonderful bowling display at Sunnyvale on Saturday.
He ripped through the batting lineup, taking six for 16 to help the Swamp Rats record a 139run win.
North East Valley clubbed nearly 400 last week but was unable to combat Mockford and was bowled out for 128.
The danger man, Llew Johnson, smashed an undefeated 256 a week earlier but could not repeat his heroics.
He lost his wicket to former Otago seamer Christi Viljoen for 19. Neil Broom (12) also went cheaply when he edged a delivery from Keegan Russell.
Mockford then went to work on the rest of the order.
Earlier, Geordie Scott (70) and Brad Kneebone (40) got the home side off to a great start with a 102run stand for the opening wicket.
Joel Meade helped convert the promising beginning with an undefeated knock of 55 to help his side post 267 for nine.
Corey Perrett spearheaded the North East Valley attack with three for 59.
Albion 263/9 beat Taieri 181/10
Former Otago contracted player Josh TasmanJones stroked a big hundred to help his side register a comfortable win against Taieri at Brooklands Park.
The opener hit eight sixes and 10 fours on his way to 134 from 144 deliveries.
He was dismissed in the penultimate over having helped Albion mass a formidable total of 263 for nine.
Tommy Clout whacked 45 from 42 and Connor Rodden chipped in with 25, while Beckham WheelerGreenall was the pick of the Taieri bowlers with three for 39.
Nathan McNicol took three wickets as well but conceded 75 runs from his 10 overs, so it was a bit of a Pyrrhic victory.
Taieri lost three quick wickets at the top of the innings.
WheelerGreenall added 58 and Ben Lockrose also posted a half century.
But one of them needed to go on and get a big total if Taieri was going to threaten the target.
They both lost their wicket to TasmanJones. He picked up two for seven from four overs to complete a tremendous day.
Clout had a good match with the ball as well, taking three for 24.
UniversityGrange 107 lost to CarisbrookDunedin/ Kaikorai 108/8
Josh Finnie snaffled a fivewicket bag to help CarisbrookDunedin/Kaikorai edge UniversityGrange at Memorial Park.
But it was Taine Bayly’s knock of 40 not out from 37 deliveries which sealed the tense twowicket win.
The bowlers dominated the lowscoring fixture.
UniversityGrange could muster only 107. The tally would have been much lower had it not been for Predeshen Soobramoney. The No 8 batsman chipped in with 27 not out from 30 balls.
Tailender Sam Edlund added a valuable 19 as well. At one stage UniversityGrange was 57 for seven.
Finnie did most of the damage. The offspinner claimed five for 33 from nine overs, while seamer Patrick Arnold nabbed three for 29.
CDK made a poor start to the chase. It slumped to 52 for five and then 63 for seven.
But Bayly clouted three sixes and a boundary in a gem of an innings to help his side overhaul the target.
Soobramoney was the pick of the UniversityGrange bowlers with three for 36.
