Demand for Govt funds

-

Napier: The mayor of Napier expects the Government’s financial contribution to support those worst hit by flooding will be used up quickly.

More than 100 homes have been deemed uninhabitable after torrential rain affected the area a week ago and more than 200 people are in emergency accommodation. That number is expected to grow.

Applications to access $100,000 in funding provided by the Government to the Mayoral Disaster Relief Fund opened yesterday.

Mayor Kirsten Wise said that would be used pretty quickly and was ‘‘a starting point’’. — RNZ
