Violence at party

-

A partygoer was hit with a ‘‘coward’s punch’’ in Dunedin at the weekend.

Acting Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said police were called to fighting at a party in Cumberland St, in North

Dunedin, at 12.25am on Sunday.

‘‘The party was at a wellknown flat and was spilling out on to the road.’’

A 19yearold was hit with a coward’s punch, believed to have been thrown by 23yearold man who was unknown to the victim, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Police arrived and moved the 23yearold on, but two of his friends, aged 21 and 20, avoided police and later confronted the victim, who had waited down the road.

‘‘A small push and shove took place but was stopped by police,’’ Snr Sgt Bond said.

Both men were arrested and released after being given verbal warnings.
