Effort to clean up diesel spill continues
Booms are still in place in Otago Harbour, near Portsmouth Dr, where up to 600 litres of diesel was spilled from a South Dunedin stormwater drain last week.
Otago Regional Council compliance manager Tami Sargeant said yesterday the booms would be changed daily until the diesel discharge stopped.
The booms moved with the waves, so a fixed point would be installed at the outfall pipe to allow them to move with the tide and remain in position to absorb as much of the diesel as possible, she said.
An investigation into the source of the spill was ongoing.
