Lime ebikes coming to Chch

-

CHRISTCHURCH: A greener option is here for cyclists wanting to explore Christchurch.

Lime, the company that introduced escooters to New Zealand’s streets, has secured a contract with the Christchurch City Council to launch a fleet of ebikes in the city.

A fleet of 100 bikes will be available for hire from next week.

Lime New Zealand public affairs manager Lauren Mentjox said the company was excited to be able to bring its shared ebike service to Christchurch.

‘‘Christchurch people really embraced escooters and we are hoping they will be equally keen to make use of ebikes.’’

Cr Mike Davidson said the bikes would reduce congestion in the city.

‘‘Giving Lime a permit to operate its shared ebikes here on a trial basis gives us a chance to assess how such a service might fit into our transport network in the long term.’’

‘‘They . . . could help us reduce congestion on our roads and lower carbon emissions, so it is a travel option we want to investigate thoroughly.’’

He expected they would appeal to cyclists wanting to cover more kilometres or explore the hills. — The New Zealand Herald
