Alpiners pipped in last 2sec

-

Hockey: The Central Falcons scored a lastsecond goal to seal a 21 win over the Southern Alpiners in the Premier Hockey League in Hamilton last night.

Nick Wilson opened the scoring for the Falcons in the sixth minute of the second quarter, but the Alpiners continued to persist and with 10 minutes to go, they were rewarded when a baseline drive sent the ball across the goal face to an open Dominic Newman to touch into the net.

The contest seemed to be heading towards a penalty shootout before a miracle behindtheback pass from Harry Miskimmin went to a diving Joe Hanks for the winning goal with only 2sec remaining on the clock.

In the other match, the Hauraki

Mavericks beat the Northern Tridents 20.

Southern Alpiners 1 (Dominic Newman 50 min), Central Falcons 2 (Nick Wilson 21min, Joe Hanks 60min).
