Car, tanker collide

Wright’s Bush: A person was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a car and a milk tanker collided in Southland on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 99 about 9.55pm.

One person who had been trapped in a vehicle was flown to Southland Hospital by a helicopter sent from Dunedin.

Fire crews from Wallacetown and Thornbury also attended.

Police said State Highway 99 was closed between Waimatuku Bush Rd and Thornbury Waimatuku Rd on Saturday morning while the serious crash unit examined the scene, but had reopened by 2.45pm.
