-

A Queenstown teenager has won a national prize for a 17minute TikTokinspired video.

Wakatipu High School year 12 pupil Elke Koehn won the Better Public Media (BPM) Student

Challenge, this year themed around their media life under lockdown, asking if media was ‘‘useful or a distraction’’.

BPM trustee, head judge and media studies educator Geoff Lealand said Elke’s video,

TikTok isn’t a waste of time, was ‘‘the most enlightening of all entries’’ and said judges learnt a lot about TikTok, which they previously dismissed as being ‘‘rather shallow and shortlived’’.

Elke won $1000 and the school’s media department received $500 prize, which would be used to buy a new camera gimbal.
