Leadership recognised
Southland Federated Farmers vicepresident Bernadette Hunt receives the primary industry leadership award at the Primary Industries New Zealand awards in Wellington on Monday night.
The leadership award recognised Mrs Hunt’s commitment to advocating for farming, particularly given her efforts to highlight the challenges farmers faced nationally measuring up to the
Government’s new freshwater regulations.
‘‘Bernadette has the rare combination of having a clear vision of what’s right and wrong, being able to articulate a strong message and bring others on the journey. She absolutely leads by example,’’ Federated Farmers chief executive Terry Copeland said.
Mrs Hunt, who farms at Chatton, near Gore, with her husband Alistair, was a finalist alongside Otorohanga dairy farmer Zach Mounsey. In 2018, she received the emerging advocate award at Federated Farmers’ awards function.
