Officer attacked

Auckland: A man has been arrested after a police officer was attacked in east Auckland.

Police said a man drove off after the officer attempted to stop a car in Ormiston Rd, Flat Bush, just after noon on Tuesday and then reversed into the officer’s car when they were stopped by traffic.

Both got out of their vehicles and the offender immediately began punching the officer in the head.

The officer has a broken finger and bruises but no serious head injury.

A 25yearold man has been charged with assault with intent to injure and is due to appear in the Manukau District Court today. — RNZ
