The end of an era for the Waikouaiti Racing Club
AFTER nearly 160 years of racing on its home course, 2021 will see a change in both venue and day for the Waikouaiti Racing Club’s popular annual race meeting.
Previously held on New Years Day, the event will now be held at Wingatui on January 16, in conjunction with the Otago Racing Club.
The change of venue and race day is a consequence of the recent racing industry review, and ongoing rationalisation of race days and venues throughout the country.
The Waikouaiti Racing Club is determined to put on a fun day of racing at Wingatui for the whole family. There will be great food vendors, entertainment for children, two or three bars for the public including a well appointed garden bar (sorry no BYO), and not to forget the racing.
It is a feature day, and so will attract some of the best horses. And the bonus of the day is that the Wellington Racing Club have kindly given the winner of the Dunedin Casino Waikouaiti Cup free entry into the NZCIS Wellington Cup. Majestic Horse Floats will help with the cost of transport for that horse to Wellington for the race.
The Waikouaiti Racing Club are offering everyone the opportunity to purchase their own private area for the day. Businesses and the general public alike are encouraged to support this initiative, with options tailored to suit your requirements. There are various packages including a table in the winning post bar, mini marquees; you can be catered for, bring a picnic, or bring your own barbecue.
If you are around Dunedin on Saturday January 16, why not consider a fun day at the races at Wingatui hosted by the Waikouaiti Racing Club.
