Hailing Trump’s achievements as ‘constructive’

-

HAMISH Spencer (Letters, 15.1.21) looked to disprove the assertion that ‘‘most Republicans’’ would not object to Biden’s victory in the battleground states.

However, the very brief Capitol incursion followed many months of other rioting, dozens of murders, destruction of property, businesses and federal state buildings across the United States, together with demands of police defunding; all in Democratrun locales and all with little or no consequences.

Mr Spencer could well be surprised that his percentage figures are not higher for those who support law and order.

Mr Spencer surely confused ‘‘destructive’’ with ‘‘constructive’’, as President Trump achieved a phenomenal turnaround in the US economy and employment (preCovid), energy independence, peace deals in the Middle East, no wars, troop drawdowns, the rollout of Covid19 vaccines in under a year (derided as impossible) to name but a few achievements; all against four years of rabid opposition to moving the US forward as a sovereign nation.

Snake photo

THE caption for the photograph of a Burmese python in Monday’s World Focus is incorrect and doesn’t align with the text.

The science article explains how some prey lineages, like the Burmese python, have evolved a nerve pocket to be positively charged, which ‘‘repels’’ similarly positively charged venom of, for example, the cobra, a voracious snake eater.

The photograph states how the Burmese python ‘‘avoids being killed by its own venom’’.

All pythons, including the Burmese python, are nonvenomous; they do not produce toxic venoms, but kill their prey by constriction.
