Stellar* has surprise for Gibbston audience

POP band Stellar* is keeping its fans guessing before its gig at the Gibbston Valley Winery Summer Concert near Queenstown tomorrow.

Drummer Andrew MacLaren said he and bandmates Boh Runga, Kurt Shanks and Chris van de Geer were expecting the vibe to be ‘‘pretty upbeat’’ when they started their 12.45pm slot.

‘‘We will be on in the heat of the day and are going to have a great time,’’ McLaren said.

He also hinted at a little surprise for the crowd.

Stellar*, alongside The Jordan Luck Band and Hello Sailor, are late additions to the concert bill after Australian acts The Angels, Pseudo Echo and MiSex were forced to cancel because of travel restrictions and quarantine measures imposed across the Tasman after Covid19 outbreaks.

Headlining the New Zealandonly lineup are Gin Wigmore and Dragon.

MacLaren said Stellar* parted ways on good terms in 2010, after a victory lap of their favourite songs and they each pursued new projects.

But about three years ago they joined forces for a oneoff gig, which piqued both their interest and that of others.

Offers rolled in and they found themselves enjoying each other’s company so much they decided to get back on the road, he said.
