Catlins train complaint

-

Sir, Can any of your readers or even the Minister of Railways give the people of this district any sound reason why we cannot go back to the good old days of seven or eight years ago, when we could go to town twice a week and return on the same day? We are informed by the authorities that it cannot possibly be done. Surely this is progress by a vengeance. Is there any railway that is paying better than the Catlins railway, or is there any more progressive people? I sincerely hope the people will put forth a determined effort to have the one train a week as we had in past years. — I am, etc, W.E. Wright — ODT, 22.1.1921.
