IT is well known that using cellphones for phone calls or texting by drivers is illegal, and the ban stems from the driver distraction caused by that use. However, it is common for many new trucks and cars to have large touchscreen displays in the middle of the dash, and these require manual operation. I believe that these are every bit as dangerously distracting as phones, but the Government still allows their use.

MY prediction made in a letter to the editor in December appears to be accurate. I recalled a Chaucerian character who made a good living selling pardons. Now we hear that those seeking a pardon from Donald Trump are being asked to pay big money in order to contact him and ask for a pardon. In future I will not make predictions based on literature for fear they might come true.
