Listening to the radio programme on toilets in Dunedin, when did it become illegal for men to use the left rear wheel of a cart?

IT is well known that using cellphones for phone calls or texting by drivers is illegal, and the ban stems from the driver distractio­n caused by that use. However, it is common for many new trucks and cars to have large touchscree­n displays in the middle of the dash, and these require manual operation. I believe that these are every bit as dangerousl­y distractin­g as phones, but the Government still allows their use.

I SEE that now the holidays have passed, we again have the slightly irritating and bizarre situation of TV newsreader­s seemingly being unable to read more than one sentence at a time.

MY prediction made in a letter to the editor in December appears to be accurate. I recalled a Chaucerian character who made a good living selling pardons. Now we hear that those seeking a pardon from Donald Trump are being asked to pay big money in order to contact him and ask for a pardon. In future I will not make prediction­s based on literature for fear they might come true.
