Heriot favoured to win three in row

- FRANCIS PARKER

ROUND three of the Southern Region competition has some tantalising matchups which could have major ramifications on the makeup of the table.

Clinton tonight hosts an unbeaten Heriot side coming off a 60point thrashing of Roxburgh.

Heriot found its stride, especially in the second half, to run away with the match.

Clinton was on the end of a similar beating by Clutha Valley, but gave a decent account of itself considering the number of new players fielded and early injuries in the match.

Heriot will be favourite to notch its third win in a row.

Clutha Valley, coming off a bumper jubilee weekend and a huge result against Clinton, has a tough battle against Clutha at home. The Condors will be hoping there will be no jubilee hangover and will be looking to continue their unbeaten streak.

Clutha will be hurting after its loss to Crescent last Friday and will be eager to return to winning ways as soon as possible. Clutha very rarely loses two matches in a row, but this will be a tricky assignment for the Steamers.

Crescent, hot off its barnstorming win against Clutha last round, is defending the Mcintosh Cup straight away. Crescent hosts Roxburgh and confidence will be running high among the squad.

Crescent’s team effort was overshadowed by a couple of individuals who took their game to a whole new level.

Excitement levels will still be high in the Roxburgh unit despite the heavy loss to Heriot. The side is back in the competition and that is a fantastic effort.

Roxburgh did, however, lose some key players through injury last week and Crescent will be a hot favourite.

Toko is coming off the bye last weekend which refreshed some early niggles and regained composure after a tough loss in round one.

The side hosts West Taieri, the competition’s third unbeaten team which is coming off a big win over Owaka under lights last Thursday.
