Polarising mayoral candidates should ‘pull out’

-

IN relation to the Dunedin mayoralty election, I think it would be in Dunedin’s best interest that the current mayor and Lee Vandervis pull out of the race.

Both these men are extremely polarising and represent different ends of the political spectrum. One is a far Right reactionary and the other is a far Left greenie.

The current mayor exudes arrogance and his disgraceful treatment of the woman who made the complaint about the swimming pool changing areas shows he cannot respect people’s rights to have their opinion heard.

Mr Vandervis has shown on many occasions why he is not suitable to be the mayor of a city as diverse as Dunedin.

We need a mayor who is acceptable to the majority, who believes in true democracy and does not use the position to pedal his own political agenda.

‘Openness and clarity’

YOU must see the irony in the column written by Civis (10.9.22).

Civis’ plea for openness in our electoral system surely is some form of befuddled humour.

Here we have a person who for the last three general elections has written some very onesided pieces in support of one party under a nomdeplume.

Yet Civis talks about the media’s duty to society, to ensure openness and clarity! Give me a break.

Wanaka ................................... surface water escapes to the ground water. And also no mention of the ecology of rivers and nearby streams.

The definition of ecology: that branch of biology which deals with the relationship of living things to the environment and each other.

As the rest of New Zealand tends toward tourism and natural biology, we find one organisation standing against that. Dairy farmers should have made their money by now and be starting to reduce their herds and make dairy only a part of farm rotation and income.
