Run for your Wife fast paced farce

- KATRINA TANIRAU

Te Aroha Little Theatre is a thriving community theatre that has been staging entertaining live theatre for more than 60 years.

Their current production Run for your Wife, is a fast-paced farce.

In theatre, a farce is a comedy that aims at entertaining the audience through situations that are highly exaggerated, extravagant and thus improbable.

Plots can be quite incomprehensible due to the many twists and random events that occur and frequently use plenty of physical humour and deliberate absurdity or nonsense.

Run for your Wife definitely falls into this category and is a hilarious and entertaining pro- duction.

The play, by Ray Cooney, was originally staged in London in the 1980s and concerns a London cab driver with two wives, two lives and a very precise schedule for juggling them both.

Cast members have a hectic schedule with many entrances and exits that create pressure and humour throughout this adult comedy.

The play uses all local talent from the director, Paul Ferguson, to all the actors taking part through to the backstage crew – this really is a local show!

Run for your Wife runs from August 4 to August 7 then August 10-13.

Sunday August 7 will be a matinee.
