This week I was the recipient of a rather nasty phone message from a member of the Morrinsville business community complaining there were too many Te Aroha stories in the paper and not enough about Morrinsville. It’s always great to hear from people who are passionate about their local paper and sometimes even negative feedback can provide some helpful tips on where we should be heading. One of the functions of a weekly newspaper is to provide a snap shot of what’s been happening recently. Sometimes there’s more happening in one part of the community, than another, and so that will be reflected in the stories produced. A paper cannot manipulate stories to suit a particular interest group or community. But we can fine-tune our coverage to make sure there is a certain level of inclusiveness in each paper. That is our challenge. Your challenge is to let us know what’s happening in your community. If we don’t know about it, we can’t report it.
