Don McFarlane guest artist at club day

- STAFF REPORTERS

Don McFarlane is somewhat of a country music legend in the Matamata-Piako District and will be the guest artist at this month’s Te Aroha Country Music Club day this Sunday September 25.

Don McFarlane became involved in country music when his daughter Anita started singing at the Morrinsville Country Music Club many years ago.

He ended up as president of that club, but then due to pressure of family and work, decided he needed a break.

McFarlane has returned to Morrinsville Country Music Club this year and is pleased to be back enjoying singing and sharing his love of country music.

‘‘It is always a privilege to share my love of singing with others,’’ McFarlane said.

‘‘I have had so many fun times and a lot of pleasure from country music and the friendships made over the years.’’

While McFarlane has enjoyed many successes at Country Music Awards in the past, it is guest spots at country music concerts and clubs that he enjoys the most.

He see these as an opportunity to catch up with the wider country music ‘family’ and renew friendships.

McFarlane enjoys a wide range of music; some of his favourites are Jim Reeves who sings Welcome to My World, Ricky van Sheldon who has more than 20 songs on the Hot Country Songs charts and Randy Travis with his number one song Forever and ever, Amen to name a few.

This month he is going to be the guest artist at Te Aroha Country Music Club on Sunday, September 25.

Te Aroha Country Music Club has been hosting a monthly club day for many years as a way of not only showcasing members of the club, but other clubs throughout the district.

Recent guest artists have included Tauranga artist Tegan Reid.

Club secretary Janice Colhoun said the club is really looking forward to welcoming McFarlane.

‘‘We look forward to seeing all our visitors on club day also,’’ she said.

‘‘Everyone will get a very warm welcome, lots of singing and a beautiful afternoon tea.’’

The door fee is $5 for non members and $4 for members and the afternoon starts at 12pm.
