ART PASSION
I like to think I have had a reasonable level of education, appreciate the good things in life, enjoy the outdoors, home life and have travelled a bit and when it comes to the arts, enjoy modern music and light opera. Am passionately fond of classical music, especially enjoy the excitement of a Tchaikovsky Polonaise, or the intricate musical story interwoven into a Chopin Ballade. But, I have obviously missed out somewhere,—try as I might, I cannot see anything artistic or attractive in the ‘‘childish daubing’’ of that so called ‘‘masterpiece’’ from Colin McCann that changed hands for an obscene amount of money recently! I would welcome someone to explain to me where the value is in that mess, in everyday language without resorting to perceived artistry or obscure cultural association!

Kieran. I’m the husband of Sara and I have the privilege of spending my life with her and our three beautiful children. She did the Skytower stair climb in memory of her fallen brother and firefighters that died in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. We have shed many tears over the last couple of months in the lead up to this climb. She did the climb not once but twice which I think is a huge achievement.
Her time for each ascend was about 15 minutes in full fireman’s kit. I stand in awe for what you have done for your fallen brother and your family. I look at you Sara and think to myself I amso lucky to have such a beautiful soul in my life. Our three children have the same traits as you. I look forward to those long days under the sun, and to see these three beautiful angels show us what life is all about. If I could give any advice on life, when it comes to family and hard times never give up.

the world is so wonderful. Rejoice, we live in the Waikato’s Te Aroha, where matters are in the right hands, so don’t you complain, ever! There will be no council elections in Te Aroha, Morrinsville, no election for mayor in Matamata Piako. Democracy at its best. Last turnout was some 41 per cent only anyway. ( I stood twice, to no avail). I wonder what the council will do with the saved money? So, don’t you worry, stay calm and carry on.
Or the new street lights, overdue anyway. Colour is right as it is finally white again, no more air shelter coloured lights, but no real lighting improvement, as the new ones give more light downwards and where there is a deep berm and the light on the (often non-existing) footpath (like in our street), the street does not get the light but the berm ie: the street stays dark, cute isn’t it? Or the conversation page, the CEO of WRC tells us that they care so much for our rivers, yet let the Waihou get murkier by the day. One industry just got consent to release their treated waste water upstream of this council’s water intake from the Waihou. That article is really revealing of the attitude, it is a whitewash, feel good exercise, basically nonsense.
Take a walk on the wild side and watch the Waihou flow by, revolting. It’s all about feel good and the Waikato and Waipa on paper take a sip! Want to hear more, sorry, I have run out of puff.
