Awakening the lion within you

- WANDA BRITTIAN

‘‘Another vital aspect of maintaining a healthy club is retaining members and a number of social events are always included in the annual calendar.’’

‘Awaken the Lion in You’ is the message to all members of District 202L by District Governor Stu Grey this year, however the all women members of Te Aroha Mountain Lions Club are always up and active and ‘roaring’ to go.

Hardly drawing breath after their successful annual Daffodil Day raffle and stall where they made nearly $3500, they are counting down to their major fundraiser of the year – their annual Book Fair.

Held on November 4-5 this year, members are busy collecting, sorting and packing boxes of books as well as a large selection of puzzles, records, DVDs and CDs.

Recipients of this annual fundraiser this year are Te Aroha Riding for the Disabled Association, Te Aroha Foodbank and Goldfields School.

Members have already donated $600 to the Te Aroha RDA raised at a Hats and High Tea event earlier this year. Youth have been a targeted area for this energetic Lions Club and they have sponsored two children to attend Te Aroha Springs Community Trust Annual Day Camp, as well as giving large donations to the Future Te Aroha Youth Programmes and the local Scout and Guiding movements.

Although the club has a bumper collection of books for their book fair they will always accept more so if you have books, puzzles, DVDs, records or CDs you no longer need contact either Philippa on 884 9781 or Catherine on 884 8222.

They can arrange for collection if necessary or explain where to drop the books off.

Membership is always to the fore with any club and members of this busy club were delighted to welcome their newest member, Sue Preston, who was inducted at the recent September meeting, by President, Margaret Martin.

Another vital aspect of maintaining a healthy club is retaining members and a number of social events are always included in the annual calendar.

Many members are new residents in Te Aroha and social events help members to get to know one another and often form lasting friendships.

A recent Pot Luck dinner proved really popular and more such events are planned.
