Night sky set to light up in Morrinsville

- KATRINA TANIRAU

The skies will light up on Saturday, November 5 this year at the 2016 Diprose Miller Fireworks Extravaganza at the Morrinsville Recreation Grounds.

Chamber of Commerce Morrinsville promotions manager Cathy Balvert said they were very delighted to announce that for the first time this year there will be a Laser Light Display proudly supported by Laser Electrical.

As one of the highlights on the Morrinsville calendar, more than 4500 people were expected to attend the annual family event.

‘‘It is always an amazing night for the whole family,’’ she said.

‘‘People can bring a picnic if they like and there will be loads of food sites there, ‘‘ she said.

Entertainment this year includes Captain Jelly, the Flames Of Plenty Firedancers, Smile Amusements and the Tim Armstrong Band.

The Morrinsville Volunteer Fire will also be there providing vintage fire truck rides.

There will also be a massive bonfire to keep everyone warm and a lolly scramble supported by New World Morrinsville.

The Warehouse is holding a colouring in competition in the lead up to the event.

Those wanting to take part are encouraged to head along to the store before the night of the Fireworks Extravaganza.

‘‘When the sun goes down and it starts to get dark, we light this amazing bonfire and that’s beautiful. The heat that comes out of this is incredible,’’ she said.

Volunteers from Morrinsville Lions, Rotary Club of Morrinsville, Pakeke Lions and Morrinsville Community Patrol will help with gate entry and traffic control on the night.

Kiwitahi School will be the school fundraiser on-site.

Balvert said local businesses had also volunteered many hours to make the night possible.

‘‘Without them, we couldn’t do it, it’s our one big fundraiser for the year.’’

All funds raised would go back into the community, she said.

Tickets will be available at the gate and parking is available from the Avenue Rd entrance.

It is $25 for a family, or $10 per adult and $5 per child. Under 5s are free. Free parking will be available at the polo grounds with an entry ticket.

If it rains, the event will be postponed until the following day, Sunday November 6.

No alcohol or personal fireworks are permitted.
