Piako Stormers on a roll
On a overcast Sunday morning in Morrinsville, the Piako Stormers year six team played Morrinsville Junior Cricket 2nd XI, as preparation for the Riverbend Cricket Tournament in January.
Morrinsville won the toss and sent the Stormers in to bat, hoping the damp conditions would restrictscoring.
This helped early on with three early wickets.
Enter Flynn Morey (54-44) at number 4, who got into his stride early and punished some short, wide bowling.
Camron Payne (49-61) added a partnership of 60 with Morey.
Max Makeham finished the innings with a great 32-17 balls.
The Stormers posted a massive 273 all out.
David Bhandari had best bowling for Morrinsville with 3/48 in five overs.
With Morrinsville chasing a huge total, scoreboard pressure was constant and this showed as the 2nd XI tried to play their shots and lost wickets constantly with only three players making double figures.
Ashton Payne provided stability to the innings. He agreed to help Morrinsville’s 2nd XI as he is a year 9. His innings really gave the Stormers the game they needed.
Ashton finished on 137* with Brodie Tilsley (23) and Vansh Singh (14).
Morrinsville fell short by 37 runs.
