Sharp scissors skills lead to selection
Cutting and styling a person’s hair is a responsibility Carly Vivian and Emma Mouat take extremely seriously.
This dedication to their trade has led to both of the Silver Scissors, Morrinsville hairstylists being selected as members of the New Zealand Schwartzkopf Creative Team.
There were only six places available for hairdressers from around New Zealand.
The Creative Team was announced at the end of last year when Schwarzkopf delivered Carly and Emma each a bunch of flowers to let them know of their acceptance into the Creative Team.
Silver Scissors salon manager and creative stylist Carly Vivian said she was gobsmacked when she found out.
‘‘We were encouraged apply,’’ she said.
Carly said she felt blessed to have mentors like Silver Scissors owner Jo Dudley-Watts, who have encouraged her to reach for the heights in her career.
A hairstylist for seven years, with five of those spent at Silver Scissors, Carly said it was an awesome opportunity to learn new skills.
‘‘I was so stoked, this will really help progress my career,’’ she said. to
For new generation stylist Emma Mouat, the achievement was extra special given she has only been working in the industry for three and a half years.
A creative person by nature, Emma wanted to take a new direction into the world of hairdressing with colour being her speciality.
Without the support of her husband Dave, children Eden and Zed, the extensive training by Jo and the opportunities given at Silver Scissors to further herself, Emma wouldn’t have been able to comprehend entering the competition.
‘‘We both (Carly and I) ummed and ahhed about entering, but I’m so glad we did,’’ she said.
Jo Dudley-Watts said having both selected means they can bring a lot back to the Silver Scissors salon.
‘‘This is an amazing opportunity for them to work both nationally and internationally amongst the best in the industry, learning current fashion trends, new colouring and creative colouring techniques, about the latest product launches and cutting techniques.’’
Carly and Emma will travel to Auckland on January 23-24 to begin their creative team journey.
