Are you up for the challenge?
Have Morrinsville or Te Aroha residents got what it takes to be the fittest people of the three Matamata-Piako towns?
The Active and Well team, as part of Sport Waikato, is inviting people and businesses in Matamata-Piako to become involved in a 12-week challenge.
The challenge is part of the Green Prescription service, a Ministry Of Health initiative offering healthy lifestyle support and advice.
Each week participants will receive an email including links to information, tips, articles and challenges.
Matamata-Piako Sport Waikato District Co-ordinator Lou Beer says people get to pick and choose the challenges from a list.
However she encourages participants to challenge themselves by doing something different each time.
‘‘It’s not that hard to do once you start thinking about moving more and finding the ‘long way around’,’’ she said.
Beer suggested trying to set yourself or your team two achievable, realistic goals or challenges each week linked to the key messages for the week; one for healthy eating and one for physical activity and keep a record.
‘‘If you are able to print the recording sheet, use that to record your goals and tick off each day of the week that you achieve your goals. Each week we give you an example of the sort of challenges you can set yourself.’’
Links to healthy breakfasts are also included, so participants can feel inspired in their personal physical challenges and also in the kitchen when considering the fuel needed to start the day.
Week 10 of the challenge includes information on ‘‘gadgets and gizmos’’ such as pedometres and fitbits to help record steps and movement.
Depending on registered numbers in each town there is an option to attend a 15 minute faceto-face meeting for goal setting and measurements.
