Super Sheep in the Waikato
Leading New Zealand traditional folk vocal group Super Sheep are headlining this year’s Folk under the Mountain in Te Aroha on Saturday May 6.
An exciting programme begins with a Big Folk Jam on Friday night.
A full programme on Saturday starts with the ever popular Blackboard Sessions with artists from across the region and beyond giving mini concerts.
A real folk treat with many surprise appearances.
There will be a very moving addition to this year’s festival as people gather to fondly remember and share memories of Phil Garland who started this festival four years ago.
Phil sadly passed away earlier this year and much of the planning for this year had already begun.
Arts Te Aroha have taken on the task of ensuring this year’s event goes ahead in Phil’s honour.
A special session ‘Songs from Phil’s Songbook’ will see artists and audience coming together in singing some of his well known compositions.
Special guests Super Sheep headline the afternoon slot with amazing acapella performances as well as individual combination from the group.
In the evening, back by popular demand will be the Old Time Bush Dance with Hamilton’s fabulous Black Pudding Band.
During the day there will also be a ukulele workshop led by Mapuna Turner and a dance workshop led by Fiona Murdoch.
This very special Folk Festival will highlight performances from many of New Zealand’s established folk musicians as well as showcasing new talent.
Songs, story telling, poetry ballads, music and dance - it’ll all be there in Te Aroha on May 5-6.
