Lions get ready for 100 years
With members, all around the world celebrating the Lions International Centenary, President, Mark Davey, of Te Aroha Lions, mooted the idea of a Centennial Dinner to all the clubs in Zone 4 of District 202L.
Before he could turn around, Te Aroha Mountain girls said, ‘‘we’re in!’’ and a preliminary meeting was organised.
A date was set and venue chosen for Saturday May 27 at the Silver Fern Farms Event Centre in Te Aroha.
Over the past months, representatives from the five other clubs in Zone 4, from Paeroa, Morrinsville and Matamata, have been meeting to organise the fundraising dinner of the year!
District Governor, Stu Gray’s, chosen charity for the year - the Fire Brigade - will benefit from the event together with the monies made from the sale of raffle tickets with the following prizes: 1: A mower and chainsaw; 2: A mower and line trimmer and 3: A basket of groceries to the value of $100.
Guest speaker at the dinner will be Aaron Waltereus who is Commander for Eastern Waikato Fire Brigade Region.
He will speak about recent changes occurring in the New Zealand Fire Brigade as well as his own personal story as a fireman.
There will also be a variety of entertaining musical items and humorous sketches and a feast fit for a king and queen.
Past and present members of the local Lions clubs concerned are registering for this once in a lifetime event to celebrate a hundred years of service, raising much needed funds for their local fire brigades in the process.
Te Aroha Lions formed its constitution in October 1962, was incorporated in February 1963 and celebrated 50 amazing years in 2012.
