Claiming titles in athletics
Promising young sportswoman Tatiana Kaumoana once again has had an extremely busy term in athletics.
Through hard work, dedication and quality coaching, Tatiana has had a strong athletics season where she again broke records and performed with distinction at district and national competitions.
In December 2016, Tatiana won the New Zealand Secondary Schools National discus title.
She claimed third place in the hammer event and fourth in the shot put.
This year at the Te Aroha College champs, she broke records in discus 45.01m (by 17m from 1998), shot put 13.15m (by 3m from 1979) and javelin, 27.92m.
At Thames Valley Secondary School champs, Tatiana won the shot put with a record-breaking throw and the discus.
At Waikato championships Tatiana was first in discus, breaking that record and first in hammer and shot put; at the North Island Secondary School champs she was first in discus, third in hammer and third equal in shot put.
On top of this Tatiana competed at the New Zealand Track and Field Nationals in Hamilton in the U18, U20 and Open events. She was first in U18 Womens discus, first in the U20 Womens discus and fourth in the Open Womens discus.
At the Australian Athletics Championships in the U18 Womens discus, Tatiana competed in shot put and hammer, and placed third in the discus, with a throw of 42.98m.
She was also entered in the U20 Womens discus and placed fourth with a personal best throw of 47.39m.
All in all, 2016-17 has been an outstanding and busy athletics season for Tatiana.
