FROM THE EDITOR
Matamata-Piako District Council’s Morrinsville ward councillor Paul Cronin is organising a public safety meeting to talk about the recent spate in crime in Morrinsville. The meeting will be held on Thursday evening. Paul makes the point that crime is not limited to young people and that a wiser, sensible conversation needs to be offered to look for solutions. This is also not a time for a vigilantetype response but rather a community solution needs to come from this week’s meeting, or at least, the first steps towards one. Last week we also highlighted the comments of Kerry Diamond, who is a business owner and resident looking for a response to crime. He has applied to join the Morrinsville Community Patrol, and is not yet a member, as I had suggested in last week’s editorial. Community patrols have a rigorous vetting process before people can become members. No doubt the community patrol will be keen to hear the outcome of the meeting.
