The polls have closed and the votes are in. And while we’re clear on who will represent the Waikato, Coromandel and Hauraki-Waikato electorates, we’re still yet to understand who or how a government will be formed for the next three year term. That’s largely in the hands of Winston Peters, who just a week ago, was booed out of Morrinsville for talking at a protest organised by farmers. In the Waikato electorate, no one looked like getting close to challenge National’s first-time candidate Tim van de Molen. He raced ahead in the polls and continues National’s reign over the electorate which stretches from south of Matamata up to the Bombay hills. Tim’s already pledged to tackle some top issues. Ultra fast broadband technology for rural towns looks to be among the items, but it depends of the composition of the government. Last week when Mr Peters visited Matamata, we quizzed him on the UFB, issue. He said a vote for NZ First would sort the problem. Will he make good on this comment?
