Morrinsville, most neglected town?
I read with dismay that Matamata-Piako District Council may fund theatre. Really, why?
The council has spent very little, if any rates money, in Morrinsville over the past year or more.
Pensioner flats, parks and reserves and gardens are a disgrace.
Lawns not mowed at flats, parks and reserves not mowed or sprayed and gardens not weeded or cared for, rubbish bins left to overflow etc.
In my opinion, and in the opinion of many other Morrinsville residents, Morrinsville is the most neglected town out of three that the council is meant to maintain.
If there is money being spent in Morrinsville can someone please tell me where?
We pay rates for a reason, it’s time the council put the rates to good use in their own community not someone else’s.
Or maybe it’s time to look at the structure and competence of the providers who are meant to carry out these services.

Matamata-Piako District
With regards to the possible contribution toward a regional theatre, Matamata-Piako District Council is not proposing to provide funding.
It is the Waikato Regional Council who is consulting on a possible regional rate for the theatre.
They sought initial feedback from the district councils on the proposal and will soon be consulting the wider community.
The council has no control over what the regional council chooses to raise and spend through the regional rates.
In terms of whether Morrinsville is being neglected, we have a programme of works that is evenly distributed across the district.
We don’t favour one town or community over another.
However, we do acknowledge that we have struggled to keep on top of mowing and weeding due to the exceptionally hot and humid summer.
We recently addressed this in our advertising and communications.
In our long term plan (which we’ll be seeking feedback on later this month and during April) we are also proposing to increase budgets by $320,000 to focus on improvements to how things look in our communities – such as how quickly we get things fixed, how often we empty rubbish bins, how clean the toilets are, how good the gardens look, etc.
In terms of major items of council investment in Morrinsville, we have recently opened a new $4 million water reservoir on Mt Misery.
We are providing for a range of items for Morrinsville over the next 10 years including walkways, refurbishment of the CBD etc.
We would encourage people to read our consultation document and provide comment back on what further issues council needs to consider.
