Get up and active for Challenge

- KATRINA TANIRAU

Are you up for the challenge? World Challenge Day 2018 takes place on Wednesday May 30 this year.

Kitakami, Japan and Matamata-Piako will go head to head in a dual that will see people engage in 15 minutes of physically activity.

World Challenge Day coordinator Anna McLoughlin said the 15 minutes of activity would take place at any time of the day in either small groups, one large group, or as a single person.

The event is huge overseas with 50 million people competing in 40 countries.

This is the first time any New Zealand district has been nominated and Matamata-Piako is the only district competing this year, McLoughlin said.

‘‘We have the odds stacked against us, but I think that if we can get people in our district excited about it, we could possibly win!’’

‘‘We are aiming for 20000 participants in the district and the majority of people would continue with their typical work day as that would be classed as physical activity,’’ she said.

‘‘This event is not aimed at just young fit people it is for all ages.’’
