Surf club shuffle-up at Orewa
Orewa Surf Lifesaving Club has several senior leadership changes for the coming season.
Faron Turner has been elected club chairman with former chairman John Chapman assuming the role of president.
Long serving president Wayne Franich retires and plans to spend more time focussing on the club’s new building project and his involvement in other parts of surf lifesaving. Franich has been on the board of directors for many years holding many offices.
His last two roles have been as chairman and president spanning nearly 15 years.
He is a life member of the Orewa Club, Surf Lifesaving Northern Region and Surf Lifesaving New Zealand and New Zealand’s representative on the International Lifesaving Federation’s Sport Commission.
Franich plans to remain involved with the club and was elected as vice president, and remains a member of the committee working on the club’s new building project.
‘‘Faron is one of New Zealand’s most experienced and respected life guards. As the new chairman Faron will bring a different perspective and ideas. He has been heavily involved in the club for many years and well placed to lead through an exciting time in our history,’’ Chapman says.
Karyn Phillips retires as junior lifeguard division chairwoman and is replaced by Brenda Larsen.
